For peoplewho do notspeakcomputer.
The laptop that will not print. The wifi that dies in the back bedroom. The email that nearly got you. I fix that sort of thing across North Texas, always in person, without making anyone feel stupid. One hourly rate, one trip charge, no memberships.
Getting it working
New computer setup
Bought, configured, and everything moved across from the old one, including the files you thought were gone.
Wifi that reaches
Dead spots fixed, the router put somewhere sensible, and one password that works everywhere.
Printers and shared files
The printer that only works sometimes, and the folder nobody else can open.
Email and accounts
Set up properly on every device, so it stops asking for the password twice a day.
Slow computers
Diagnosed honestly. Sometimes it is a cheap fix and sometimes it is time to replace it, and I will tell you which.
TV and smart home
Streaming, the doorbell camera, the thermostat, and four remotes reduced to one.
Keeping it safe
Backups that run themselves
Automatic, tested, and with a plan for the day something actually fails.
Passwords and two factor
Off the sticky notes, into a manager, protecting the accounts that matter most.
Small business setup
File sharing, accounts, devices, and licences organised so a new hire takes ten minutes, not a day.
At your pace, at your kitchen table
Sessions in your own home
No jargon, and written instructions left behind so you are not relying on memory.
Phones and tablets
Texting photos, video calls with the grandkids, storage that is always full, apps that moved.
No memberships
No monthly plans, no contracts, no bundles. You call when something is wrong and you pay for the time it takes.
Evenings and weekends
Appointments outside working hours at no extra charge, because most people cannot take a Tuesday morning off.
Senior living and 55+ communities
I work with independent living, 55+, retirement and assisted living communities across North Texas, both for residents and for the staff side. Residents own or rent everything from houses and villas on the property to apartments in the main building, and I come to whichever it is. It is some of the most satisfying work I do, because the people who need this help most are the least likely to ask for it.
Residents, one at a time
I come to the community and work with residents where they live, whether that is a house, a villa, a cottage or an apartment on the property, at their pace. Phones, tablets, email, photographs, video calls with family, and whatever the last update moved.
Regular visiting hours
A standing half day or full day each week or month, booked by the community. Residents sign up for a slot and I work through the list. Simpler to administer than one off call outs.
Community wifi and common areas
Resident wifi that drops in certain homes or corners of the property, the activity room television, the lobby screen and the printer in the business centre.
Scam awareness sessions
A short talk for residents on the calls, texts and emails currently going around, what they look like and what to do. Practical rather than frightening.
Photographs and papers
Residents moving in often arrive with boxes they have no room for, whether they are moving into a house on the property or an apartment. Scanning on site means the memories come with them and the boxes do not.
Staff side too
Office computers, printers, shared files and the software the team uses daily. Training for new staff who inherited a system nobody explained.
Most arrange a recurring visit, billed to the community, with residents signing up for a slot through the activities director. Others prefer residents to book and pay individually and simply pass on my details. Either suits me, and there is no contract or minimum with either.
Happy to provide proof of insurance, sign a confidentiality agreement, and pass whatever background check your community requires before I set foot on site.
Three steps, no jargon
Tell me what is happening
In whatever words you have. "The thing on the screen that will not go away" is a perfectly good description.
I come to you
At your home or your business, usually within a couple of days, with evening and weekend slots available.
You get it in writing
A short summary of what changed, what to watch for, and what it cost. No mystery line items.
One hourly rate, one trip charge
One rate per hour, one trip charge, and I tell you the likely total before I set off. The rates are deliberately competitive for the area, and you will know what a visit costs before I arrive rather than after.
I round to the nearest hour. Ninety minutes is charged as one hour. An hour and forty is charged as two. Nothing is billed in fifteen minute slices, there is no diagnostic fee, and I do not charge for the time I spend explaining what I did or writing up your notes.
On site only, in your home or your business. Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, Richardson, Carrollton, Prosper, Wylie and Murphy at the standard trip charge, and the wider metroplex at the outer rate. I do not do remote only work, because most of these problems need someone standing in front of the machine.
What you will not be charged for
What if you cannot fix it?
Then you pay the trip charge only and nothing for the hour. If the answer is a new machine or a manufacturer repair, I will say so, help you choose, and set the new one up when it arrives.
Do you work remotely?
No. Everything is done in person, in your home or your business. Wifi, printers, TVs and slow machines are all much faster to diagnose standing in front of them, and you get to watch what I am doing.
Will you talk down to me?
No. Most of this is not obvious, and the people who designed it made it harder than it needed to be. Ask the same question as many times as you like.
Can you help my parents?
Often the arrangement is exactly that. You book it and cover it, I work directly with them, and you get a short note after each visit so you know what changed.
Describe it in your own words
Looking to get boxes of paper or family photographs onto a computer? That is a separate service, see the digitizing page.
